Businesses have learned to be vigilant with their computer systems. Hackers and viruses have—painfully at times—taught that lesson well. Now, as more business activities take place on mobile devices, that same vigilance must follow. Fortunately, a variety of tools are available to keep your device and the data on it safe. Here are just a few examples:

Mobile Recovery, included when you subscribe to Verizon’s Total Equipment Coverage, helps you find your phone when it’s lost using GPS and a remote alarm. And if you can’t find it, lock your phone or wipe your contacts to protect your privacy. Kaspersky Mobile Security has similar features, plus virus scanning and a firewall. It also allows you to filter out unwanted texts and calls.

Lookout Mobile Security may have a similar name, but it offers a different set of features. It blocks viruses, malware and spyware and scans every app you install. Back up your contacts and photos and access them on the Web.

Need a more powerful tool for text messaging? Send encrypted text messages with SecureCell. It even lets you compose messages that blow past the 160-character limit to more than 2,000 characters. Bonus: With Remote Delete, you can remove private messages from a recipient’s phone.

Do you have more passwords than you can mentally manage? mSecure Password Manager is the app for you. It encrypts personal info such as account numbers, usernames and passwords and syncs between devices and PCs/laptops.
